Masterpieces of Chinese Painting 700-1900 – V&A

The last exhibition I saw at the Victoria and Albert Museum was Masterpieces of Chinese Painting 700-1900.  This exhibition is showing beautiful examples of Chinese painting from the beginning of the 8th to the end of the 19th century, of all different kinds. The paintings are beautiful and varied: I loved the pictures of mythological creatures.

I found it fascinating to trace the development of painting, from artworks produced due to government commissions through to monks and scholars who painted for private display. My favourite work in the exhibition was the wonderfully detailed, hugely long Prosperous Suzhou by Xu Yang, full of scenes, images and figures depicting life in a busy urban location.

Like the other exhibitions currently running at the V&A, it is well worth visiting.
